I’m a guy who gets after it!
Part of getting after it is doing a lot in my life, whether it is something I enjoy personally, helps someone else, or is just a bit of random fun. Outside of my book, my music, my courses, and my strategic communications profession, I have several other hobbies and fun things I currently do or have done in my life:
I use a Nikon DSLR camera with several different lenses to provide fun, informal photography services for families, headshots for friends, as well as scenery and editorial photography. Here are a few examples:
Since December 2013, I have been a music instructor at the Sitar Arts Center in Washington, DC, which provides arts and music education for at-risk, low-income children in elementary, middle, and high school. I teach guitar and bass guitar lessons.
US Navy Veteran
From 2009 – 2017, I was an intelligence officer in the US Navy Reserve leading and training sailors in support of the US Navy’s 5th (Middle East) and 7th (Pacific) Fleets. In 2013, I deployed to Manama, Bahrain to serve in the N2 (Intelligence) section of Naval Central Forces Command. I was also the Command Fitness Leader for Navy Reserve Unit ONI 0466. I separated from the US Navy in August 2017 having earned the Information Dominance Warfare Badge, Basic Parachutist Badge, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Overseas Global War on Terrorism Medal, Domestic Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Rifle Ribbon, and Expert Pistol Ribbon.
As an officer with the State Department in the Political-Military Affairs section of the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, I helped build and reform Iraq’s security sector, build its civil-military relations, and improve its strategic military education program. During my tenure from 2011 – 2012, I oversaw and led the US position on the establishment of the Iraq-NATO Individual Partnership and Cooperation Program (IPCP), which was signed in May 2012, officially establishing the tenets of the official partnership between NATO and Iraq.
As a military analyst from July 2007 – April 2011, I wrote dozens of strategic, analytic papers on Middle Eastern and South Asian security forces for the President, Congress, and senior national security staff members evaluating conventional and unconventional weapons systems, defense resources, war-fighting capabilities, intentions, doctrine, and war-fighting of foreign governments, terrorists, and insurgency groups. Final products ranged in length from one to eight pages, and included maps, graphics, and digital content.
As a Financial Adviser with Ameriprise Financial in Westlake, Ohio from 2006 – 2007, I was a licensed adviser and planner with National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Series 7 and 66 licenses, as well as Life, Health, and Variable Insurance Licenses. I earned Ameriprise Financial’s Mercury and Centurion awards for client acquisition in my first 20 weeks. Simply put, it shows that I had built a strong network, was trusted by my clients, and responsible in my actions.
I have traveled to five contents, including the following countries:
